Mother-In-Law House: Apple Pie

Many of the recipes used at the Mother-In-Law House were gathered from owner Donna Hafer's family and friends. Her famous apple pie recipe was compliments of her Aunt Hon in Illinois.

Yield: 1 pie


Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour

  • 2/3 cup shortening, plus 2 Tbsp

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/3 cup ice water

  • 6 to 7 tart apples, sliced

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • Pinch nutmeg

  • 5 pats butter

  • Milk


Preparation

Mix flour, shortening and salt with ice water in sauce pan. Mix until it cleans the pan. Divide in half. Roll out one half and place in bottom of a nine-inch pie plate. Mix apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and butter, and add to pie plate. Roll out other half of crust and place on top. Cut holes in top crust. Brush top crust with milk and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 450F for 15 minutes. Bake at 350F for another 45 to 60 minutes.
