Cheddar cheese & chive biscuits were a favorite at the Bevo Mill. Some customers came in just for the biscuits, which could be purchased for carry-out.

Cheddar Cheese & Chive Biscuits

Yield: About 2 1/2 dozen biscuits


Ingredients

  • 2 lb flour

  • 2 tsp salt

  • 4 1/2 Tbsp baking powder

  • 2/3 cup sugar

  • 1/4 cup dried chives

  • 3/4 cup cheddar cheese, grated

  • 1/2 cup oil

  • 2/3 cup margarine, melted

  • 2 3/4 cup milk


Preparation

Mix all the dry ingredients together thoroughly. Add the margarine and oil while mixing until all the oils are mixed in. Add the mild and kneed just until the mix pulls away from the side of the bowl. Do not over-mix.

Drop onto an ungreased baking pan from a large spoon. Each biscuit should weigh about 2 oz. Cook on a 400° F oven for about 20 minutes until done.
